Limit orders

A limit order puts goods or money into escrow and fires by itself when the market crosses your price. It fills at your price, never at the market's — which is what makes it something you can plan around.

The rules

  • Slots: the hard ceiling is 5. You do not start with them — the tree grants 5 in total.
  • Lifetime: 900 seconds of play. When one expires the escrow comes back in full; an expired order costs you nothing but the wait.
  • Minimum gap: 5 % away from spot. Closer than that and you are simply buying now, so the game does that instead.
  • One order per good. Placing a new one refunds and replaces the old.

Using them well

The market is mean-reverting: it is pulled back towards base by 1.2 % of the gap every step. That is the property orders are built to farm.

  • Buy under, sell over. Park a buy at 0.24-ish on a good you actually consume, and let the walk come to you.
  • Events glide, they do not jump. During an event the price moves 8 % of the gap per step, so a well-placed order in front of a crash gets filled on the way down, not after.
  • Escrow is real. Money in an order is money you cannot spend on a machine. Early on, that matters more than the profit does.

The achievements that live here

  • PATIENCE PAYS — an order that fills at twice the price you placed it at.
  • BOTTOM FISHER — for buying deep under the base price, in bulk.
  • AGAINST THE ARROWS — for buying while every arrow says not to, and being right.
  • EAR TO THE MARKET — trading on your own alert, while it is still fresh.
